Make an Airzooka

You've probably seen these Airzookas around. It basically is an airgun that shoots a vortex of air up to 20 feet away. Add some smoke, and you can shoot smoke rings which is pretty cool. Instead of dropping $20 on one, here's a site that shows you how to make your own.

Install Window on your Hard Drive *literally*

This site has a very hard cored modification. Since everyone is modding their cases with a window lately (1, 2, 3). This guide take the window installation in a different perspective. So, I wonder why would anyone take apart their hard drive and cut it into pieces so they can see it spinning? or perhaps he is taking the term of Windows™ installation too literally, who knows?. Anyway here's the link

RoboSapien with a PocketPC Brain

From Slashdot courtesy of Cottonbuds, this site describes a very cool project from a group that took a RoboSapien (if you haven't seen this thing yet, check it out at Wowwee's web site) and gave it a PocketPC brain.

Make an Inflatable Bladder

Another link from Cottonbuds, this would be a great project to make for the kids. This site shows you how to make your own inflatable bladders. What's an inflatable bladder you might ask, "You can make inflatable bladders for pool toys, dolls, balls or even kites and it's really cheap." More than just a bag you blow up and tie off, this one has a valve, you use a soldering iron to put it together, and the site has instructions to do your own minor repair work.

Build your own DAC

Here are a couple links to building your own DAC. The first one, submitted by CottonBuds, is very cool because it is USB. No drivers required. It also has the capability of being powered via USB, but due to added noise, is not recommended. The next link is also a DAC, but very different, in that this one focuses on high quality sound. The price for this one will run you around $750. Both of these projects are not for beginners. You should have a solid u

DIY Car Black Box

From our friend Cottonbuds, here's a very cool how-to from Engadget, showing you how to make a Black Box for your car. Maybe a better description might be a photo travel log (for very short distances). Basically what it does is uses a GPS and digital camera, and snaps about 800 photos per hour while you're driving, then stamps them with the locations from the GPS. Considering it takes so many pictures however, it would continually overwrite the old photos. What you could do is adjust number of photos to maybe 6 per hour, and use that as a trip log as well.
