Cardboard Wi-Fi antenna
Submitted by cottonbuds on Mon, 07/12/2004 - 16:42.An article at theregister.com describes how you can build a Wi-Fi antenna using a cardboard. To tell you the truth it sounds like origami to me. But anyway the construction according to the website will only cost you only a tenner. Wow! that's a bargain, unless you are not going to use your antenna while it's raining, this construction is a very cost effective way to build an evironmental friendly, recycling Wi-Fi antenna. Here's the link Flantenna website
Turn Your Dreamcast Into a Linux Router
Submitted by jj on Wed, 06/02/2004 - 17:16.It's time to get that Dreamcast out and do something useful with it. This article describes the process of converting your DC into a Linux based router with firewall capabilities. Why would anyone want to go through this huge article (it's over 100 pages!), when you can pickup an equivalent appliance at Fry's for under $50? First of all, it's a great learning experience - the article covers in depth the process of "cross compiling" ("building a program for a platform different from which the compiler runs") - if you want the easy way out, there's also a Linux for DC distro called LinuxDC. Secondly, this is a completely geeky hack.
Super Linksys Router
Submitted by jj on Wed, 05/05/2004 - 01:16.If you have a Linksys WRT54G router, you're in luck. This article shows you how to supercharge your router with a number of new features, including P2P bandwidth management, command shell for diagnostics, bandwidth management, OSPF routing, and a whole lot more. With this firmware update (remember to always be careful when updating firmware in any device), you can make your under $100 router, into a pretty powerful device.
